River Teign, Preston to Broadway.
Starting from the car park you cross the road and walk through a large flat field, which has the distinction of being an unofficial landing strip during the war for pilots who desired to stop for a quick swim in the river. As you meander along the riverbank it is worth remembering that for
countless thousands of years the river has gently strayed across the
valley re-forming the shape of the riverbank. Now you will see signs
of restoration work carried out by forming the bank and planting willow
to grow and use the root structure to reinforce and strengthen the bank.
There are many little islets that have been left behind as the river
changes direction. The bridge over the Teign, past the farm ford, turns
into Preston where a well earned cuppa can be had before retracing your
steps before turning south along the eastern bank.
