At the Photo Corner we will scan using camera or scanner, load the image to the computer and with sophisticated tools digitally repair your photograph or other artwork. Photographs are fragile and treasured by their owner. They may be the last image of a loved one or tell something of an individuals past. The emulsion can be easily scratched or torn, the whole thing a little dog eared and jaded. Even taking a photograph out from a frame for glass cleaning can tear the emulsion. When we repair or more accurately restore and retouch we strive to leave the sense of age/history with most of the patina that damaged photographs contain. That is unless instructed otherwise. We do like to discuss these options. We will work from prints or emulsion or glass based negatives. Scribbled dates names and places are part of that photographs information and heritage. A photograph does not have to be old to be of value.

This
photograph may have been originally printed with small hairs and other debris
on the negative. If so they left white shadows. These have been
touched out and the outline of a rubber stamp on the reverse which seems to have
bled through, removed. |
|
The
emulsion on this photograph was quite badly abraded and needed a lot of retouching.
Some of the moisture damage has been removed but not all and the
hand written date, now barely visible has been left untouched. |
|
This
photograph has some red staining and marks possibly caused by moisture. By
altering the hue of the picture the red is less obtrusive and careful retouching
has removed the spots. |
|
This
late Victorian/early Edwardian studio portrait suffered water marking
and a number of holes possibly from woodworm. The mount is probably made
from wood pulp. It needed extensive retouching. |
